Great-Grandfathers Family a Mystery??

Was told that my Great-Grandfather was of Mohawk descent but i have come to a dead end. His name was Louis O. Shall, I have no idea what his roll name might of been or what part of Canada he came from. But do know that he was issued a Railroad number from the Railroad Board? Was also told he never even worked fo the Railroad. Can anyone give me a hint or an idea where to look it would be very much appreciated and I would also like to say Thank You in advance for your help.
