What is an American Indian pow wow? |
American Indian pow wows are gatherings where traditional Native American culture is celebrated in song, dance and food.
Pow Wows have always been an integral part of Native American Indian life, starting with the nomadic tribes of the Great Plains.Members of all tribes would gather at the start of the summer season, and share stories of their exploits and hardships, as well as the sharing of visions and prayer. But pow wows were mainly celebrations, where the tribes would rejoice through dances and music; that is the spirit that has endured, and lives on in todays pow pows, which have spread to include members of over 50 tribes in the U.S. and Canada.
